Running multiple Arqma Wallets on one device

There’s no rule that says you must have only one wallet. Many users keep a ‘savings’ wallet they touch rarely and a smaller ‘spending’ wallet they use day to day. Here’s how to set that up cleanly.

Why people use more than one wallet

  • Risk separation: a small spending wallet on your laptop, a larger savings wallet that only ever lives on a cold backup.
  • Privacy compartments: different wallets for different counterparties or purposes.
  • Work vs personal: the obvious one.
  • Testing: a tiny throwaway wallet to try a new feature.

Creating a second wallet

  1. Open Arqma Wallet.
  2. If a wallet is currently open, choose Close wallet from the menu.
  3. From the start screen, click Create new wallet.
  4. Give it a different file name (e.g. spending, savings) so you can tell them apart on disk.
  5. Set a unique password. Write down the new 25-word seed phrase on paper. Two copies, two locations.

Switching between wallets

Use File → Close wallet, then Open wallet from file and pick the other .keys file. Arqma Wallet shows only one wallet at a time — that’s a safety choice, not a limitation.

Storing the files

By default they all live in the same Arqma wallets folder for your OS. You can move them to clearly named subfolders or even external drives. The wallet just needs you to point to the .keys file at open time.

Common patterns that work well

  • Two-wallet split: hot “spending” with the equivalent of a week of expenses, cold “savings” for everything else.
  • Air-gapped savings: generate the savings wallet on a clean offline machine; receive funds to its address from your spending wallet. Never type that seed back into an online device unless you intend to spend.
  • Watch-only: use the view key from your savings wallet to create a watch-only wallet on your phone for balance-checking without spend power.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Reusing the same password across wallets — if one is compromised, the others fall.
  • Backing up only one seed and assuming it covers all wallets.
  • Naming files identically and overwriting one by accident. Use distinct names.

The cost of not owning every wallet you create

People who keep one wallet for everything are the ones who end up filing recovery tickets. Splitting funds across a hot, a cold, and a savings wallet — all controlled by you — eliminates the single point of failure.

  • $2.2Bstolen from crypto services and custodial wallets in 2024 alone (Chainalysis). Almost none of it was held in self-custodial wallets like Arqma.
  • #1cause of consumer crypto losses, year after year, is a fake wallet or cloned download page — not a protocol exploit. The official build is the fix.
  • 25words is all you need to restore an Arqma Wallet on any device, in under five minutes. No support ticket, no waiting on a custodian to respond.
  • $5.6Breported lost to crypto investment fraud in the US in 2023 (FBI IC3). Nearly all of it sat in third-party accounts the victim didn’t actually control.
