About the Arqma project (ARQ)

Arqma is an open-source cryptocurrency project built on the Monero codebase, focused on privacy, fair mining, and a community that owns its own infrastructure.

What Arqma is

Arqma (ARQ) is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency project. It started as a community fork of the Monero codebase and has been developed independently by volunteer contributors. There is no foundation, no venture capital, and no token sale. The network is run by its users.

What makes it different

Privacy by default

Like Monero, every Arqma transaction is private by default. Ring signatures, stealth addresses, and confidential amounts hide sender, receiver, and value. There’s no transparent ledger to scrape.

RandomARQ — fair mining

Arqma uses RandomARQ, a CPU-friendly proof-of-work algorithm derived from RandomX. It’s designed to resist ASICs and NiceHash-style rented hashpower, so an ordinary laptop and a hobbyist GPU stay competitive against industrial farms.

Service Nodes

Service Nodes are the network’s second layer. They stake ARQ to provide chain-agnostic services like decentralized finance primitives, anonymous messaging, and added-privacy options for tokens issued on top of Arqma. Stakers earn a share of block rewards in return for uptime and good behaviour.

Open source, top to bottom

Every line of Arqma code lives at github.com/arqma. You can read it, audit it, build it, and contribute. The wallet you download is built from the same public source tree.

Who builds it

A small team of long-time contributors maintains the core code, the wallets, and the network infrastructure. Most of them work under pseudonyms — a normal practice in privacy-focused projects. You’ll meet them on the Arqma GitHub issue tracker.

How to support the project

  • Run a full node — it strengthens the network’s resistance to censorship.
  • Stake a Service Node if you have the technical chops and the ARQ to stake.
  • Submit pull requests, file bug reports, or improve the documentation.
  • Help newcomers in chat. The best onboarding is honest peer support.
What goes wrong elsewhere

The cost of not owning the project you rely on

Most coins are run by a company that can be subpoenaed, acquired, or quietly turned off. Arqma is run by an open community with no foundation and no ICO — the wallet you download is built from the same public source tree anyone can audit.

  • $2.2Bstolen from crypto services and custodial wallets in 2024 alone (Chainalysis). Almost none of it was held in self-custodial wallets like Arqma.
  • #1cause of consumer crypto losses, year after year, is a fake wallet or cloned download page — not a protocol exploit. The official build is the fix.
  • 25words is all you need to restore an Arqma Wallet on any device, in under five minutes. No support ticket, no waiting on a custodian to respond.
  • $5.6Breported lost to crypto investment fraud in the US in 2023 (FBI IC3). Nearly all of it sat in third-party accounts the victim didn’t actually control.
